Lonza Announces Settlements in Patent Infringement Suits

FAIR LAWN, N.J.Lonza Inc. (www.lonza.com),a subsidiary of Basel, Switzerland-based Lonza Group Ltd., announced settlementof two patent infringement actions filed in late 2002. Under terms of the Jan. 8settlements, Axel Chemicals LLC and Stauber Performance Ingredients Inc. agreedto refrain from future infringement; Lonzas action concerned U.S. Patent No.5,073,376, which covers solid oral dosage forms, including tablets and capsules,of L-carnitine L-tartrate for human consumption. Azel and Stauber also agreed topay undisclosed sums for past infringement of Lonzas patent rights.
