Lonza Receives Patent for Vitamin Absorption

FAIR LAWN, N.J.--Lonza Ltd. (www.lonzagroup.com),together with Hill's Pet Nutrition and the Kansas State Research Foundation,received a U.S. patent for increasing intestinal absorption of fat-solublevitamins in postmenopausal women. The patent (#6,476,010) also applies tocompanion animals. The method comprises oral administration of a fat-solublevitamin and L-carnitine. According to the patent description, L-carnitine andits esters enhance the stability and integrity of phospholipids, and helpmodulate energy production in cellular mitochondria.
