Supplement trade associations disagree on hot topics – podcast
Steve Mister, president, CRN, addresses opposing views of trade leaders on CBD, probiotics and product registries.
Trade associations in the supplement and functional foods industry disagree on several key issues, including a mandatory dietary supplement registry and a legal pathway to market for CBD. Brands that are members of multiple organizations may be funding efforts that oppose each other. Therefore, Steve Mister, president and CEO, the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), said it’s important for companies to examine the practices of each of their trade organizations to see if they align with the brand’s values. And it’s on trade organizations to find common ground so the industry can be unified when it communicates with FDA and legislators.
Mister discusses this and more in this podcast with Sandy Almendarez, content director, including:
CRN’s stance on global standards for the quality and efficacy of probiotics.
The evolution of industry’s relationship with FDA since the passage of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA).
How the impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump may benefit the supplement industry.
This podcast was recorded at the annual CRN Conference in Carlsbad, California.
