Transfer Point Holds Meetings in Cuba

WASHINGTON--Executives from Transfer Point held several meetings inCuba in late 2003, which resulted in the sale of U.S. food and agriculturalproducts to Cuba; the U.S. Congress relaxed trade restrictions to Cuba forcertain food and medical supply categories in 2001.

Among the attendees were the agricultural commissioners for Alabama, NorthDakota and Virginia; the secretary of agriculture for Iowa; and seniorexecutives from several major U.S. agricultural producers and exporters.

One U.S. representative, A.J. Lanigan, met with several medical officials inCuba to discuss his line of dietary supplements containing beta 1,3-D glucan.Lanigan said he expects both countries will benefit from the normalization oftrade and travel. His comments were echoed by Antonio C. Martinez, a member ofthe firm Martinez Bass and a point person in coordinating Lanigan's meetings.
