Wisconsin Congressmen Introduce Ginseng Bills

WASHINGTONLegislation wasintroduced by two Wisconsin congressmen seeking to require country of originlabeling for ginseng. Rep. David Obey (D-Wis.) and Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.)introduced HR 4456 and S. 2542, which seek to require labeling of raw ginseng, including the country of harvest. In his introductory remarks, Feingold notedthere is a lack of labeling requirements to ensure consumers are receivingspecific types of ginseng.

We must give ginseng growers the support they deserve byimplementing these commonsense reforms that also help consumers make informedchoices about the ginseng they consume, Feingold said. Both bills have beenreferred to the House and Senate agricultural committees.
