Backed by a wealth of research, omega-3 fatty acids are leading the industry in demand and growth. Global omega-3 raw material sales grew 10 percent in 2011 to reach USD $1.81 billion, according to Frost & Sullivan data. And the sales aren’t slowing down; the market research firm predicted a 12-percent increase through 2016.

Even still, questions remain regarding how to best source, formulate and market these ingredients.

This year’s SupplySide West Omega-3 Insights Summit “Formulating for Freshness” tackles these crucial issues on the forefront of manufacturers’ minds on Tuesday, Oct. 7. Developed with Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3s (GOED) and underwritten by Almega PL, Golden Omega and Virun, the Summit addresses the freshness of ingredients, the science of shelf-life/stability and current product releases and market potential.

Held from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., the sessions include:

  • Stability of Omega-3 Fatty Acids – Consideration for Additional Ingredients;

  • Ingredient Supply: Freshness and Purity, with Joseph Moritz, Ph.D., scientific marketing manager, BASF Human Nutrition North America; and

  • The State and Future of the Global Omega-3 Market through 2020, with Christopher Shanahan, global program manager, Frost & Sullivan.

The Omega-3 Insights Summit is just one of many forward-thinking educational opportunities held at SupplySide West, held at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas from Oct. 6 to 10. To learn more about the INSIDER education track and additional Summits and to register, visit SupplySideShow.com.
