LAVAL, Quebec—Neptune Technologies & Bioressources Inc. will finish reconstruction on its Sherbrooke krill oil facility on April 7, 18 months after its deadly plant explosion.
The new facility will reach a captivity of more than 150 metric tons of krill oil annually, as well as provide the space to double production in the future. Neptune has been conducting safety tests and personnel training with implemented recommendations from Canadian agencies. Preoperational testing will begin once the plant reopens, and actual production will continue once all remaining operational permits are obtained.
In November 2013, Neptune's Sherbrooke krill oil plant exploded and caught fire, killing three, injuring 18 and destroying the facility. This incident caused Neptune to let go of half its team and prompted government investigations. The CSST has yet to release a final report on the incident.
