GMP Regs Back on Track
WASHINGTON--As of March 28, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Department of Health and Human Services(HHS) have resubmitted proposed regulations for GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) for dietary ingredients and dietary supplements to the White House's Office of Management and Budget (OMB). In the melee caused by the change in administration, the American Herbal Products Association(AHPA) and other industry associations had urged HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson to send the GMP proposal to OMB as quickly as possible, which it appears he did.
"Now that the proposed regulations appear to be back on track, we hope that the long-awaited GMPs will move quickly through the system and become final," said MichaelMcGuffin, AHPA president. "These regulations are fundamental building blocks for the dietary supplement regulatory scheme and are important to reinforce the integrity of our industry."
