PHOENIXNu Science Trading (NST) and Viridis BioPharma introduced MenaquinGold® WS, a water-soluble and flavorless vitamin K2-7 (MK-7) powder.

Manufactured by Synergia Life Sciences under current good manufacturing practices (cGMPs), MenaquinGold® WS has virtually no organoleptic impact. It is odorless, cold and hot water-soluble, and is stable in the aqueous environment. This WS version is an advancement on drying technology of fermented extracts in which the vitamin K2 is completely unadulterated, natural and stable.

MenaquinGold® WS can be used directly in any aqueous and semi-aqueous product, and it has guaranteed stability and potency to deliver high-quality vitamin K2. The new product is soy-free, allergen-free, vegan, self-affirmed generally recognized as safe (GRAS), kosher and Halal-certified.

Over the past five years, consumers have become increasingly aware of vitamin K2 and its importance. Recent publications from European research institutes and U.S. institutes, such as Tufts, have shed light on the need for vitamin K2 because it plays a critical role in bone and heart health. Researchers in Tokyo found vitamin K can improve bone strength and body composition by decreasing fat accumulation.

Published studies have also shown higher vitamin K2 intake is associated with decreased cardiovascular mortality, cancers and diabetes. The problem, however, is that vitamin K2 has been stripped from the western diet. Vitamin K2 is most abundant in fermented foods, such as cheeses, egg yolk and animal organ meat. It is also made, to some degree, by some of the beneficial bacteria in an individuals digestive system. With little to no consumption of fermented foods or organ meats in the Western diet, the general population has been found to be deficient in vitamin K2. This opens a significant opportunity for dietary supplement, beverage and functional food manufacturers to fortify and build products around this critical nutrient.
