People are stressed today more than ever, and it’s not a platitude or a statement plucked from trending headlines. Since 2007, the American Psychological Association (APA) has conducted an annual survey to gauge national stress. Its Stress in America survey draws a mind-body link to the
“physical and emotional implications of stress,” according to the APA.

The prevalence of stress in Western society today may explain why many are turning toward natural medicine and Eastern practices (and its 21st-century twists with meditation apps and goat yoga). Chief among the rising stars out of the Ayurvedic tradition is the adaptogenic herb known as ashwagandha, which is believed to help the HPA axis decelerate and return the body to homeostasis.
