Botany Research Underway in New Guinea

FORT WORTH, Texas--On Dec. 5, the Botanical Research Institute of Texas andPapua, New Guinea's National Forest Service (NFS) announced a joint agreement tocollaborate on research projects in botany and forestry. Martin Golman, a seniorscientist and divisional manager at NFS, was named a research associate at theInstitute, and Wayne Takeuchi, the Institute's resident project botanist, willbe a research associate at NFS.

According to NFS, New Guinea has more than 20,000 species of plants,representing five to eight percent of the world's biodiversity. The Institutehas the largest independent herbarium in the U.S. Southwest, with more than70,000 volumes of books, periodicals and journals from more than 90 countries.For additional information, visit www.brit.org.
