CRN Introduces Action Plan

WASHINGTON--The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), based here, inSeptember unveiled an action plan designed to enhance confidence in dietarysupplements. "These actions provide the basis for immediate attention toconcerns about the safety, quality and benefits of dietary supplements,"said John Cordaro, CRN president and chief executive officer. The actionsinclude:

  • Provide a scientific review of the safety and benefits of top-selling botanical products;

  • Seek third-party certification for botanical product content;

  • Establish a dietary supplement information center;

  • Start a congressional awareness campaign to keep lawmakers informed on issues concerning the dietary supplement industry;

  • Seek prompt, appropriate, food-based enforcement on safety and quality issues from regulatory agencies.
