Eastman Discontinues Propylene Glycol Production

KINGSPORT, Tenn.--Eastman Chemical Co. (www.eastman.com)announced that it will discontinue its production of propylene glycol at itsproduction facility in South Charleston, W.Va., effective Dec. 31. Eastmanacquired the facility, located in the Union Carbide manufacturing complex, in1992. It has been operated under a general service agreement with Union Carbide,so there are no full-time Eastman employees located in South Charleston.

Eastman's propylene glycol storage terminals in Longview, Texas; Kingsport,Tenn.; Chicago; and Perth Amboy, N.J., will be converted to store other Eastmanproducts. Eastman has approximately 15,000 employees in 30 countries and posted1999 sales of $4.59 billion.
