Hemp Crosses U.S. Border Once Again

WASHINGTON--Though Kenex hemp products were seized at the U.S. border in August, the U.S. Customs service and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) has decided to allow future shipments from Kenex to cross safely. "We now have a guarantee from the DEA and U.S. Customs that they will not seize any future shipments of hemp products from our company," said Jean Laprise of Kenex.

Still, Customs has yet to release all of the 18,000-kilogram shipment initially seized. The reason for the seizure, according to the U.S. government, is that the seeds contained trace amounts of THC, the active constituent in marijuana. According to Lapirse, Kenex is considering suing the U.S. government over the August events.
