New NOSB Members Named

WASHINGTON--On May 12, five new members were named to the National Organic Standards Board (NOSB). They are Owusu Bandele, a Baton Rouge, La.-based organic farmer; T. Mark King, an Indianapolis-based retailer; William Lockeretz from Brookline, Mass. and Rebecca Goldburg from Montclair, N.J., both environmentalists; and Kim Burton, a Chico, Calif.-based organic handler. Their terms begin immediately and end on Jan. 24, 2005.
The current board is comprised of four farmers/growers, two handlers/processors, one retailer, one scientist, three consumer/public interest advocates and one environmentalist. According to the NOSB statute, three environmentalists must serve on the panel.
