Nutraceutical Research Alliance Seminar

Unique Technologies for Product Development--Gene Expression Profiling and Dissolution of Herbal Products

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--Nutraceutical Research Alliance Inc. will sponsor a VendorWorks presentation at SupplySide West concerning product development technologies in the natural product industry. The first segment will be by Hauser Technical Services with Jon Atwater, senior chemist at Hauser Laboratories, presenting standard pharmaceutical dissolution procedures. Research will include physiochemical properties affecting dissolution, stability and bioavailability in raw materials such as ginseng. This presentation will also cover how these properties are applicable to numerous herbal product formulations.

Afterward, there will be a presentation on gene expression profiling by Source Precision Medicine. In a step toward individualizing medicine and making clinical studies an even more precise science, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology and its uses will be discussed. PCR, which makes numerous copies of a specific segment of DNA quickly and accurately, may be used to identify the activity profile of either a raw material or a finished product in relation to human genes. Gene profiling may help define the efficacy and similarity between dietary supplements and chemically known products, which may create more accurate tests for product comparisons, extraction profiles and lot-to-lot evaluations.

This presentation will be given Tuesday, Oct. 24 from 9 to 9:50 a.m. at SupplySide West. For additional information, call Nutraceutical Research Alliance at (719) 473-0431.
