SupplySide West Delivers On Expectations
Suppliers and attendees from around the globe gathered in Las Vegas Oct. 22to 24 for SupplySide West. While final numbers were not available at press time,around 4,000 executives met and did business. The exhibit hall consisted of morethan 480 booths, and participants were treated to a visit by Sen. Orrin Hatch(R-Utah). "Based on reactions from exhibitors and attendees, this was ourbest SupplySide show yet," said Jon Benninger, group publisher of theNatural Products Division at Virgo Publishing, the producer of the event. Manyattendees commented how quickly the show had grown into a major force--totalattendance has almost tripled from the second SupplySide West, which was heldoutside of Phoenix with an exhibition floor under a big top tent.
"SupplySide was the missing link that this industry desperatelyneeded," said Peggy Jackson, publisher of the Natural Products Division."The success of SupplySide is a direct result of the popularity andinfluence of Natural Products Industry Insider. We've created an atmospherewhere manufacturers and suppliers can get together for the good of theindustry."
Special events, educational seminars and receptions highlighted thenetworking and learning opportunities. Sunday, Oct. 22, saw 144 attendees hitthe links at The Legacy Golf Club for the 4th Annual SupplySide West GolfClassic sponsored by Cognis Nutrition and Health. Parties included Sunday'sInternational Reception sponsored by Capsugel, Monday's Opening Receptionco-sponsored by Roche Vitamins and Mesomas and an on-the-show-floor AttendeeAppreciation Party on Tuesday. The educational program set a high bar withspeakers including Brad Williams with the Food and Drug Administration andPhilip Sheldon with Hill & Knowlton. Among the popular panel discussionswere the Buyer Q&A with buyers from some top manufacturers, and discussionson the B2B and B2C Web site growth. The next event, SupplySide East, is set forMay 7 to 9, 2001, at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, N.J.
