USP Puts Reference Guide Online

ROCKVILLE, Md.--The therapeutic use of antimicrobial drugs to treat diseaseand relieve suffering in animals has slowly created concern over the years.Antibiotic resistance may develop and human health might be influenced byantimicrobial use in food-producing animals.

The United States Pharmacopeia (USP) has responded to these public concernsabout the administration of antibiotics to animals. USP volunteers collaboratedwith the Food Animal Residue Avoidance Databank (FARAD) to create USPVeterinary Drug Information, which is now available on USP's website: www.usp.org.This reference site was designed to assist veterinarians in effective drug use,as well as to address specific public health concerns.
