Cargill Introduces Sodium Reduction Solution

MINNEAPOLISCargills Premier Light Salt 50/50 is a blend of food-grade potassium chloride and sodium chloride that provides 50 percent less sodium than regular salt. The blend can be used as a direct replacement for salt in processing applications where sodium reduction is desired.
This new ingredient is intended for food manufacturers looking for an economical solution to sodium reduction, but do not want to blend salt and potassium chloride themselves," said John Franklin, Cargill marketing manager. Premier Light Salt 50/50 Blend delivers half the amount of sodium while maintaining many of the functionalities of regular salt.
The ingredient can be used for processed meat and poultry products; cheese; salted snacks; seasoning blends; cereals; and breads and bakery products.
