Inulin Powder Increases Calcium, Magnesium Absorption

MALVERN, Pa.ORAFTI Active Food Ingredients announced a new study using its Raftilose Synergy1, showing the enriched inulin powder significantly increased calcium and magnesium absorption in postmenopausal women. Researchers from the Clinical Studies Unit at the Palo Alto VA Health Care System in California enrolled 15 healthy, postmenopausal women who were randomly assigned to receive 6 g of Raftilose Synergy1 twice daily for six weeks or placebo. After a sixweek washout period, regimens were reversed and followed for an additional six weeks. Analyses of calcium and magnesium absorption at baseline and after each treatment period indicated Raftilose Synergy1 enabled the women to increase calcium and magnesium uptake by as much as 20 percent each.
