Creatine, HMB Good for Muscle Gain

AMES, Iowa--In a meta-analysis of studiesconducted between 1967 and 2001, researchers from Iowa State University reportedwhich supplements appeared to be the most effective in terms of muscle buildingand strength enhancement. In the February Journal of Applied Physiology (94:651-9,2003), researchers reported creatine and beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate (HMB)were found to significantly increase net lean mass of by .36 percent and .28percent, respectively. Chromium, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), androstenedioneand protein were not found to significantly affect lean muscle gain or strength.
