TEMPE, Ariz. The Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) expanded its list of dietary supplements to avoid, including a total of 104 entries on its Dangerous Contaminated Supplements list, Tom Singer reported for MLB.com. The original list, the Non-Exclusive List of Potentially Contaminated Nutritional Supplements, had 21 entries.

In his story, Singer quoted Pat Courtney, vice president of operations for Major League Baseball (MLB), noting that MLB works with the association to identify products to include on the list and help ensure players and training staffs are aware of it.

Ned Bergert, the Los Angeles Angels longtime head athletic trainer, told Singer he e-mails copies of the list to the players, and advises them to only take dietary supplements that are certified under NSF International's Certified for Sport program. Courtney added, We work through NSF. Anytime we come across new information through them, or another laboratory or, really, anyone reliable, we update this list.

The Biz of Baseball reported on the release of the updated list, which is available in the story as a .pdf, on March 11; access the story here.
