Vegetarians May See Better Creatine Benefits
ANTIGONISH, Canada--Research indicates vegetarians may respond wellcreatine supplementation. In Novembers Medicine & Science in Sports& Exercise (35, 11:1946-55, 2003) (www.ms-se.com),42 vegetarians and nonvegetarians were randomly assigned either creatine orplacebo during eight weeks of resistance training. Biopsy samples indicatedtotal creatine was lower in vegetarians at baseline than nonvegetarians.Vegetarians who supplemented with creatine had a greater increase in totalcreatine, plasma creatine, strength and whole-body lean tissue levels comparedwith both vegetarians and nonvegetarians on placebo.
