Companies in the natural beauty sector have entered partnerships and expanded their businesses in recent weeks, reaffirming predictions that the cosmeceutical and personal care industries will continue to grow in 2015.
Ingredion Inc. entered into a commercial agreement with Gelymar (Santiago, Chile), a producer of the natural ingredient carrageenan. Ingredion will commercialize Gelymar’s carrageenan and textural solutions for the food and personal care industries in the United States and Canada. The new alliance will provide manufacturers with the latest technologies to develop unique solutions. Ingredion will be introducing these products to the market over the next 90 days.
HORN also announced a new partnership to expand its current distribution territory. The company’s new partnership with Air Products became effective February 1; HORN’s distribution territory of Air Products’ personal care line will now include Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas, in addition to its existing territories in the Western U.S., which includes a total of 15 states. Multifunctional polymers, cellular active ingredients and specialty delivery systems from Air Products offer formulating solutions for skin care, sun care, hair care, color cosmetics and toiletries.
New product launches and branding strategies have also expanded the cosmeceutical market in recent weeks. The Gnarly Whale released its natural makeup remover containing organic hemp, olive, jojoba and coconut ingredients. With hemp’s growing body of research backing its skin health benefits, the ingredient has become a rising star in the cosmeceutical industry. The Gnarly Whale’s hemp-based makeup remover stays true to the company’s low impact, minimal ingredient philosophy; it can remove eye, face and lip products with a combination of just eight ingredients.
Croda also rebranded its KeramimicTM 2.0 to Kerestore 2.0 to better highlight the restoring benefits of its biomimetic keratin while providing a greater individual identity within the marketplace. Kerestore 2.0 is a specialized conditioning active, which can repair the most damaged areas of the hair’s surface. Developed using the most recent advances in proteomics, the amino acid sequences of the peptides found in Kerestore 2.0 match those present in the keratin proteins found in cuticular and cortical regions of human hair. New data also shows that Kerestore 2.0 enhances the ‘combability’ of hair across different hair types.
A recent certification obtained by BASF also benefits the natural cosmetics industry by increasing credibility of product offerings. The company achieved good manufacturing practice (GMP) certification for cosmetic ingredients in accordance with the requirements of the European Federation for Cosmetic Ingredients (EFfCI). BASF’s largest site for the production of personal care ingredients in Dusseldorf-Holthausen has also successfully passed the audit. The certification confirms that strict guidelines for product quality and industrial hygiene requirements are followed during the manufacturing process.
