ChitoClear Achieves GRAS Status

NEW YORK--Primex Ingredients (www.primex-ingredients.com)announced in early May that its ChitoClear shrimp-derived chitosan has beengranted Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) status by the Food and DrugAdministration (FDA). The approval will allow Primex to market ChitoClear foruse in foods and beverages such as snacks, energy bars and juices.

"Achieving GRAS status for ChitoClear is based specifically on Primex'suse of North Atlantic shrimp shells and a unique processing technology,"said Thore Ivar Thorsen, sales manager for Primex. "Chitosan is a naturalproduct that will truly have a positive impact on the health of the Americanconsumer, and we are pleased that ChitoClear is being heralded as the purestform of this ingredient."
