FDA Warning on Adulterated Sex Products

WASHINGTON FDA issued a consumer warning about a product, Stiff Nights, sold as a dietary supplement for sexual enhancement, that was found to contain undeclared suloaildenafil, a pharmaceutical similar to the active ingredient in Viagra. The adulterated product, sold primarily on Internet sites and at retail outlets by Impulsaria LLC, is in violation of federal laws regarding content and marketing of dietary supplements. FDAs warning noted the active compound may interact with nitrate drugs, causing dangerously low blood pressure.

Because this product is labeled as an all natural dietary supplement, consumers may assume it is harmless and poses no health risk, said Deborah M. Autor, director of FDAs Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) Office of Compliance. In fact, this product is illegally marketed and can cause serious complications.

FDA advised consumers who have experienced any adverse events from sexual enhancement products to consult a health care professional, and urged consumers and health care professionals to report adverse events to FDAs MedWatch program at 800-FDA-1088 or online.
