Press Release

Maritech® fucoidan extracts, manufactured by Australian biotechnology company Marinova Pty Ltd, have attained GRAS (Generally Recognised As Safe) status. These Maritech® ingredients are the

first and only high purity fucoidan extracts to achieve FDA notified GRAS status.

Fucoidan is a bioactive polysaccharide that occurs naturally in brown seaweed. Maritech® fucoidan extracts have been extensively researched and shown to have a diverse range of bioactivities including tumour suppression, immune support, digestive health, anti-inflammation, viral inhibition and anti-aging.

The FDA has issued a "no questions" response to findings by an independent panel of qualified experts who determined that Maritech® fucoidan extracts from Undaria pinnatifida and Fucus vesiculosus seaweed species are safe for ingestion as a food ingredient. Comprehensive safety data and scientific research were used in the evaluation process, confirming safety at rates of up to 250mg per day.

Marinova’s Operations Manager, Dr Damien Stringer, commented on the achievement. "GRAS recognition is testament to the safety and quality of Maritech® fucoidan extracts, giving our customers even further confidence that they are getting the highest quality and most effective fucoidan ingredients on the market."

The attainment of GRAS status complements existing regulatory accreditations in other jurisdictions, including Australia, Canada, Europe and China, and adds to the certified-organic, non-GMO, Kosher and Halal certifications of the Maritech® fucoidan extract range.
