VISTA, Calif.Global Health Trax Inc. (GHT), is introducing  KidsLac, a probiotic for children that includes the DDS-1 strain of Lactobacillus acidophilus (from Nebraska Cultures Inc), which initiates the colonization of good bacteria and helps to control pH levels, primarily in the colon;. Supplied by KidsLac contains five specific strains of friendly bacteria to help support kids natural defense systems, while at the same time helping to reduce occasional digestive upset.

There are kid-specific reasons for taking probiotics, and we feel weve addressed them with KidsLac," said Jim Rex, president and CEO of GHT. Kids often gravitate toward sugary foods. Theyre often at close quarters with sick classmates at school, they can experience stress and theyre occasionally on antibiotics. Because of factors such as these, kids can benefit from a probiotic product that helps to maintain a balance of friendly flora in the digestive tract. KidsLac helps to provide immunity and digestive support."

GHT expects to begin shipping KidsLac during the final week of May 2012.

Besides for DDS-1, KidsLac contains Bifidobacterium bifidum, which helps to maintain intestinal flora; Bifidobacterium infantis, the main bacteria found in breast-fed infants; Bifidobacterium lactis, which supports the immune system; and Bifidobacterium longum, which helps to metabolize a wider range of carbohydrates.

In 2010, Nebraska Cultures sponsored a study on of the DDS-1 strain of L. acidophilus that looked at its efficacy in humans; DDS-1 has been found to also help treat  irritable bowel syndrome and apoptic dermatitis
