BOSTON—The Socially Responsible Business Awards (SRBA) event, originally scheduled for Sept. 24, 2009, during Natural Products Expo East here, has been canceled. The SRBA board made the announcement due to several unforeseen technical issues it thought would compromise the integrity of the annual event; SRBA plans to resume the event in 2010.

“Given the close ties between the values of the natural products industry and the SRBA we regret that the awards will not be made this year at a time when our country and our industry are facing serious economic and long-term sustainability challenges,” said Gurudhan S. Khalsa, SRBA board chair. “We do hope the spirit of social responsibility will still remain at the forefront of our industry’s efforts and relationships.”

SBRA recognized the companies that pledged to sponsor the 2009 awards: UNFI, Herbalist & Alchemist, Clif Bar, Aubrey Organics, White Wave and the annual main sponsor, Golden Temple.
