A Chinese herbal formula may spell relief for those suffering from peanut allergies. In previous studies, Food Allergy Herbal Formula (FAHF-2), was shown to protect peanut-allergic mice against anaphylactic reactions for as long as 4 weeks post-therapy. A new study, published in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, protected peanut-allergic mice from anaphylaxis for more than 36 weeks following a 7-week period of FAHF-2 treatment.

FAHF-2 has investigational new drug approval from FDA. Human clinical trials are currently underway at Mount Sinai to evaluate the safety and early efficacy of FAHF-2 on multiple food allergies, including peanut, tree nut, fish and shellfish.
