Weider Sells Powder Manufacturing Facilities

SALT LAKE CITY--Weider Nutrition International on May 9 closed the sale of its powders manufacturing facilties to Cornerstone Nutritional Labs LC. The $5.5 million cash sale will assist Weider in reducing its investment base and debt, with no expected increase in product cost.

According to Bruce Wood, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Weider, the sale is part of the company's ongoing review of efficiencies of all its divisions. "We concluded that by outsourcing our powders business we can obtain equivalent high quality products at very competitive costs," he said.

Cornerstone Nutritional is a privately-held contract manufacturer based in Salt Lake City. Calls to the company were not answered.
