Vitamin Angels Collecting Children's Vitamins

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.--The Vitamin Angel Alliance (www.vitaminangel.org) sent out a letter in March asking for donations of children's chewables to be shipped to Ghana. The nonprofit needs 6,000 bottles and so far, one-quarter of the goal has been met.

"The response from the industry has been really incredible," said Howard Schiffer of the alliance. He reported that approximately 25 percent of what is needed has been donated for a region that is suffering from severe malnutrition. "We are trying to get 6,000 bottles of children's chewables for 500 children--this will cover them for one year. The reality is that right now, until adequate food supplies can be brought in or grown, [these chewables] will literally be the difference between life and death for many of these kids."

Currently, companies such as Garden State, Natrol, Now Nutrition, Rainbow Light and Tishcon have contributed product to the Vitamin Angel Alliance. Schiffer said he is hoping that the organization's goal will be met within the next six to eight weeks.
