Washington State Distributes Vitamin Cartel Funds
OLYMPIA, Wash.--Washington state received court approval of itsplan to distribute funds it received in the national 2000 settlement with sixvitamin companies that pleaded guilty to criminal price fixing charges.Washington received almost $6 million, which will be distributed to almost 30agencies and organizations that promote health and nutrition efforts amongconsumers. Among the awards were $570,000 to the Washington Senior Farm ProduceProgram to improve the nutritional status of low-income seniors and $471,588 tothe Heart Institute of Spokane to study the effects of heart-healthy diets onheart-attack patients.
