7-Keto Increases Resting Metabolic Rate

CHANHASSEN, Minn.Administrationof 7-Keto from Humanetics Corp., in conjunction with a calorie-restricteddiet, appears to reverse declines in resting metabolic rate (RMR) typicallyassociated with dieting, according to a study presented at the Federation ofAmerican Societies of Experimental Biology (FASEB) meeting.

Researchers from the Minnesota Applied Research Center and theVeterans Administration Medical Center conducted a double blind,placebo-controlled crossover trial on 40 overweight adults. Patientsparticipated in three seven-day treatment periods: 7-oxo DHEA, HUM5007 orplacebo, with intervening seven-day washouts. Together with a calorie-restricteddiet, administration of 7-Keto increased RMR by 1.4 percent above baselinelevels versus a 3.9 percent decrease in RMR in the placebo group.

John L. Zenk, M.D., was the lead researcher and is the chiefmedical and scientific officer for Humanetics Corp. He noted 7-Keto achieved thethermogenic effect on RMR by directly up-regulating the activity of fatburningenzymes. With the addition of 7-Keto, dieters attempting any weight lossprogram can enjoy more success, which can motivate them toward their weight lossgoals, he said.
