Carbs Help With Hypoxia-Induced Fatigue

TIMARPUR, New Delhi--Researchers from the Defence Institute ofPhysiology and Allied Sciences investigated carbohydrate's effects on weightloss brought on by hypoxia (a lack of oxygen to the body's tissues). In theOctober edition of Appetite (39, 2:127, 2002) (www.academicpress.com/appetite),researchers led by Alka Sharma, M.D., noted the physiological effects for 35rats that ran on a treadmill while being given normal amounts or depletedamounts of oxygen. The carbohydrate supplement did not amelioratehypoxia-induced weight loss, but it did significantly delay the onset of fatiguecompared to the control group.
