Consumer Class Action Against Lifetek Underway

SAN DIEGO--A San Diego resident filed a class action lawsuit against Lifetek Corp. in regard to its Lifetek GO product, which contains ma huang. The product was sold as the "ultimate energizer" that promoted "thermogenic weight loss." Though Lifetek's literature for the product cites clinical studies, the Complaint alleges that Lifetek did not adequately investigate the supplement for safety and failed to provide a warning to users that ma huang, the herbal form of the stimulant ephedrine, may be harmful.

The lawsuit specifically mentions the following adverse effects of the product: "nervousness, dizziness, tremors, alternations in blood pressure or heart rate, headache, gastrointestinal distress, chest pain, myocardial infarctions, stroke, seizures, psychosis, brain damage and death."
