Hydroxycitric Acid Suppresses Appetite Via Hypothalamus

SAN DIEGOHydroxycitric acid(HCA) suppresses appetite by acting on the hypothalamus, according to newresearch unveiled at the annual meeting of the Federation of American Societiesfor Experimental Biology (FASEB).

In the in vitro study, researchers examined slices of rat hypothalamusespretreated with different concentrations of HCA (as Super CitriMax, fromInterHealth Nutraceuticals), measured NPY concentrations in tissue and mediumsamples and found HCA suppresses appetite by reducing levels of basalneuropeptide Y (NPY), a compound that stimulates energy intake.

This study provides powerful new evidence on Super CitriMaxs ability toinfluence brain chemicals and neuropeptides involved in appetite control andeating behavior, said Professor Suny E. Ohia, Ph.D., one of the researchers.
