L-Carnipure® IncreasesFatty Acid Oxidation

ALLENDALE, N.J.Supplementationwith L-carnitine (as L-Carnipure® from Lonza Inc.) significantly increases fatoxidation in overweight individuals without impacting protein catabolism, according to a study conducted at the University of Rostock and published in Metabolism(53, 8:1002-6, 2004). Researchers provided 12 slightlyoverweight adults with either 3 g/d of Lcarnitine or a placebo for 10 days, andthen investigated protein turnover and fat oxidation, as well as body fat massand lean body mass.

The positive findings support those reported in Metabolismin a 2002 study, in which L-carnitine (as L-Carnipure)was found to stimulate fatty acid metabolism in healthy adults.

Were glad to have two excellent studies in hand thatshow an increase in fatty acid oxidation after oral L-carnitine supplementation, said Ulla Held, Lonzas manager of scientific affairs. By continuing toinvest in science and clinical research, were happy to improve our overallunderstanding of this exciting nutrient.
