Olive Lifesciences, a manufacturer of botanical extracts, is collaborating with Victoria University in Melbourne, Australia to evaluate appetite suppressant properties associated with Coleus forskohlii in overweight and obese Australians.
“The clinical study will be a lead from the recently published animal data showing positive effect of coleus on appetite suppressant property," said Dr Shiv, vice president of Olive Lifesciences. “It has been suggested that forskolin, an active molecule of coleus may also suppress appetite thus reduce energy intake and results in weight loss. In addition to the appetite suppressant properties of Coleus forskohlii extract, the effect on central obesity and risk factors of metabolic syndrome will also be investigated."
The randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled study is designed for 12 weeks and has begun enrolling subjects. Changes in appetite will be assessed using visual analogue scale and blood hormone levels will also be measured along with lipid profile. Victoria University is the primary sponsor of the study.
