Prunes Are Now "Dried Plums"

WASHINGTON--TheFood and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the California Prune Board's (CPB)request to use the words "dried plums" as an alternative to"prunes." The CPB asked for the name change after it was found that"dried plum" held a more positive connotation than "prune."The CPB hopes the name change will attract its target audience of women 35 to 50years old. Under the new ruling, prune packers will need to change the product'sname in two phases: for two years, both names (dried plums and prunes) willappear on packaging.
