Supplement maker: Immune products the new TP – podcast
NOW Foods is powering ahead despite social distancing and sanitary requirements, as its immune business booms and ingredients like vitamin C are in high demand.
April 16, 2020
Legacy dietary supplement brand NOW Foods is operational thanks to work-from-home capabilities and a well-adapted highly sanitary, high quality production to meet the increased health and safety requirements such as physical distancing and regular cleaning. The Bloomingdale, Illinois, company employs 1,800 people, none of whom has tested positive for COVID-19, but management has a shutdown and support plan in place. This level of preparation and care, coupled with technology, is a huge driver to the ability of such companies to be productive during a lockdown.
Jon Benninger, VP of the Health & Nutrition Network for Informa Markets, caught up with Jim Emme, CEO of NOW Health Group, in the digital ethos to talk about the new world of supplement manufacturing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Natural Products Insider has put together the audio from this video episode of Catching Up to offer the content to readers as a podcast. The video is posted on the SupplySide YouTube channel.
Highlights of this podcast include:
How people taking their health into their own hands during this pandemic has boosted demand all along the farm-to-shelf chain of the dietary supplement market.
How being prepared has helped NOW meet the unexpected astronomical demand for immune products that has strained supplies of vitamin C, elderberry and other key ingredients.
The importance of maintaining quality standards and responsible pricing, as well as industry self-policing, during a time when FDA has publicly puled back its oversight of food and supplement facilities.
