City Workers Offered EpiCor® Discount

ANKENY, IowaAnkeny, Iowa, City employees can buy EpiCor®, from Embria® Health Sciences, below retail cost for the upcoming cold and flu season. A total of 98 people, comprised of both City employees and dependants, across 12 governmental departments are signed up to receive six months of the ProActive Health Products brand of EpiCor.

Headquartered in Ankeny, Embria has been working closely with City officials to launch this health initiative as part of the Citys ongoing Employee Health and Wellness Program. The goal of providing city workers with low-cost immune health supplements is two-part: to improve overall employee wellness and decrease absenteeism.  Participants will complete individual health surveys at the beginning, mid-point and end of the six-month period to measure the success of the initiative.

Since its introduction in 2005, EpiCor has been the subject of extensive research. A clinical study published in Urologic Nursing showed EpiCor helped to reduce both the incidence and duration of cold and flu symptoms in subjects who had been vaccinated. Most recently, a 2010 issue of Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine published the results of a clinical study that concluded EpiCor significantly reduced the incidence of cold- and flu-like symptoms in non-vaccinated individuals. Also within the last year, Advances in Therapy published the results of a 12-week randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled study that found EpiCor significantly reduced the severity of certain allergy symptoms, such as nasal congestion.
