NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.Humic acid improved flu-related symptoms, including cytokine response, the immune system modulator T-cells CD4+ and CD8+, and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) scores when study subjects were provided six 250-mg tablets daily for 14 days in a recent study conducted by Laub BioChemicals Corporation. KGK Synergize of London, Ontario, managed the double blind, placebo-controlled U.S.-based clinical trial for Laub BioChemicals, a global manufacturer and supplier of humic acid for commercial distribution throughout the nutraceutical marketplace.

The 37-person clinical observed influenza A and B symptoms including cough, fever, runny and stuffy nose, aches and pains, headache, chills, sneezing, earaches and fatigue .Conducted during the Spring 2010 flu season, the trial found subjects treated with humic acid showed a 107-percent improvement in flu-related symptoms scores, a clinically-noteworthy development over placebo. The placebo group showed a 76-percent improvement in VAS scores by the second week of the trial.

The clinical trial results strongly suggest humic acid provides preventative as well as treatment measures to combat viral flu infection," said Dr. Richard Laub, Ph.D., president and chief executive officer of Laub BioChem.

Humic acid is a byproduct of the biodegradation of composted organic matter and is an organic component of soil, many upland streams, dystrophic lakes and ocean water. Researchers have observed that humic acid blocks viral replication by impeding the adhesion of viruses to healthy cells, which helps prevent subsequent infection. Previous scientific research has also shown that humic acid exhibits anti-inflammatory properties.

Laub BioChem has conducted more than 15 years of research and development to create its humic acid. Meeting standards for safety, efficacy, consistency, and purity, the companys humic acid products and their applications are protected by 15 U.S. and worldwide patents, and its founder, Laub, is recognized as one of the worlds leading experts on the chemistry and biochemistry of humic acid.
