Janet Carver Elected President of RCA
April 21, 2010
BRIDGEWATER, N.J.Janet Carver, Culinology® group leader for National Starch, has been elected president of the Research Chefs Association (RCA). Her election marks the first time a representative from a specialty starch supplier has held the prestigious post and the first time a woman has been elected president since the organizations inception in 1996.
I think its fantastic that a culinologist from a specialty starch company can represent the Research Chefs. At National Starch we serve the whole food industry, so we have a broad perspective of what the industry needs and applications, Carver said. In fact, we see ourselves as pushing the boundaries of whats possible with starch in all applications, not only in creating textures but also in providing nutrition.
An active member of the RCA since 1999, Carver was elected to the RCAs board of directors in 2006 and has held the roles of vice president and treasurer. Her responsibilities at the RCA have included serving on the education committee, teaching basic carbohydrate science to chefs and teach-assisting basic culinary classes to food scientists. She has also served as a member of RCAs Fine Dining Team along with David Burke of davidburke & donatella restaurant in New York City during the RCA/IFT Food Challenge in Las Vegas in 2004. She was also appointed chair of the IFT/RCA Culinology Demonstration Pavilion during the IFT Expo in 2007 and 2008.
