The anti-aging skin care market has encountered a radical shift in the past few decades. Not only have scientists made new discoveries on how skin works and responds, and developed new actives and delivery systems that have enable skin care to be more advanced and effective than ever before, but consumers are getting more involved too. By stating their demands and earnestly seeking alternatives to what has previously been considered conventional skin care, consumers are influencing how formulators and manufacturers approach skin care.
Along with consumer involvement, innovation involving new ingredient discoveries and delivery system advancements are also shifting the market. Several new ingredients have emerged within the cosmetics space, as well as the introduction of many crossover ingredients such as pre- and probiotics. As research and development (R&D) teams unveil more benefits to pre- and probiotics, these beneficial bacteria are finding use in topical and ingestible products designed for skin health, helping to transform categories such as acne and eczema.
Delivery systems are also doing their job better, as larger sized ingredients and molecules are not only able to penetrate skin, but they're able to penetrate deeper, in addition to offering extended time release and increased efficacy.
As all of these forces work togetheringredients, science, technology, delivery systems, consumer involvement and creativityskin care will continue to expand and evolve, as well as bring new ideas, products and concepts to market that can inspire innovation in the health and nutrition industries across the board.
