ATLANTAHuber Engineered Materials (HEM), a division of J.M. Huber Corporation, is adding to its Quincy, IL, manufacturing operations to make way for more calcium carbonate granulation production.  The new addition is expected to become operational in second quarter 2012 and generate nearly 10,000 metric tons of calcium carbonate granulation annually.

The expansion will be integrated into the existing HuberCal® calcium carbonate milling operations and increase GMP (good manufacturing practice) capabilities at the Quincy site.  The calcium carbonate granulation to be manufactured in Quincy will mirror that of the granulation line at HEMs Modesto plant.

HEM expects to add hire 10 new positions along with the expansion, including the recently hired Hugh McCoy, who joined the company as project manager to oversee the expansion.  Once the expansion becomes operational, McCoy will assume the duties of plant manager.  McCoy brings more than 30 years of food and pharmaceutical experience to Huber.

Huber Health & Nutrition supplies calcium carbonate granulation, calcium carbonate powder and  other nutritional ingredients to the fortified food and dietary supplement markets.  Huber offers a number of processing capabilities and services, including fluid bed granulation, blending, custom granulations, triturations and contract manufacturing

In 2010, HEM hired Scott Marsi as director of commercial development for its health and nutrition business.
