CENTERVILLE, UtahA new study in the Journal of Dietary Supplements found iron multi-amino acid chelate (IMAAC) better tolerated than ferrous sulfate commonly used in iron dietary supplements. For the trial, scientists from research group KGK Synergize gave 60 participants either ferrous sulfate, IMAAC (as Ferractiv® from Biotron) or placebo for seven days (J Diet Suppl. 2013 Mar;10(1):17-28. doi: 10.3109/19390211.2012.758217).

Researchers found no hematological differences in the three groups; however, they noted a statistically (p = .044) higher number of adverse events reported in the ferrous sulfate subjects compared to IMAAC participants (p = .008).

Recent studies have linked iron intake with reduced fatigue, better behaved children and teens' fitness levels.
