BASF Products Achieve GRAS Status

FLORHAM PARK, N.J.BASFannounced its Kollidon VA 64 and Kollidon 90 F polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)products were self-affirmed GRAS (generally recognized as safe). The companysaid new applications for these products may include easy-to-chew tablets aswell as better-tasting liquid vitamins.

Our customers are looking for GRAS ingredients that canhelp differentiate their products in the marketplace, said Emile Henein,industry manager for BASF Pharma Solutions and Dietary Supplements, NorthAmerica (www.basf.com/usa). Kollidon VA 64 and Kollidon 90 F have been usedas binders in pharmaceuticals because they have the ability to adsorb water,mask bitter tastes and provide a smooth texture. Now, they will enable dietarysupplement technologists to develop safe, innovative products.
