WESTCHESTER, N.Y.—ConsumerLab.com dropped a lawsuit filed in 2005 against the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN). The original filing occurred after CRN filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), asking the agency to investigate ConsumerLab’s business practices; FTC took no action at that time. In early 2006, all but one of ConsumerLab’s claims were dismissed, and this current action resolves the situation. According to CRN, ConsumerLab dismissed the final claim before the association could request the court require documents on the company’s business practices. ConsumerLab’s statement regarding the end of the lawsuit stated the company had to divert extraordinary resources, and “continuing ... to test products and publish our reports for consumers was more important than eventually winning the case.”
