FDA Issues Steroid Warning

WASHINGTONThe Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warningabout forthcoming regulatory action, including seizure and injunction, forsupplement companies that continue to manufacture and distribute unapproveddrugs containing steroids; on March 9, the agency issued warning letters to fourcompanies including Affordable Supplements, Anabolic Resources LLC, Legal GearInc. and Supplementstogo.com, which were given 15 days to notify FDA(www.fda.gov) of corrective actions planned or completed to correct theviolations.

Affordable Supplements and Legal Gear were contacted about the product Methyl1-P®, which is presented as a dietary supplement but contains the syntheticsteroids 6-alpha-methyl-etiocholene-3,17-dione and 17ahydroxyprogesterone, whichare listed on the products label.The companies respective Web sites alsofeature statements for this product claiming fast, huge muscle building legallyand without side effects.

Anabolic Resources and Supplementstogo.com were both warned for themanufacture and sale of Anabolic Xtreme Superdrol, which is marketed as asupplement but contains the synthetic steroid methasteron. Claims found on thecompanies Web sites promise consumer a lean muscle gain of as much as 6 lbs.to 10 lbs. in as little as three weeks.

FDA takes its responsibility to protect Americans from dangerousunapproved drugs seriously, said Margaret Glavin, associate commissioner ofregulatory affairs at FDA. Todays action is indicative of our resolve.
